PennDOT has officially wrapped up the heavy lifting on the Route 32 (River Road) bridge replacement over Tributary of Delaware River in Plumstead Township, as reported on their website yesterday. With a budget of $965,000, the state's contractor has put in a new 22-foot-wide reinforced concrete box culvert in place of the centenarian single-span concrete slab bridge that stood before. Motorists who are part of the daily traffic count of 2,238 can now smoothly cruise along the updated structure that also features a freshly painted brown, structure-mounted guiderail barrier and approach guiderail.
In addition to the bridge work, the project saw utility relocation and the necessary clearing of debris—work that made to quickly reopen this critical link after the damage wrought by the remnants of Hurricane Ida back in 2021. PennDOT aided by temporary repairs allowed the state highway and its adjacent streambed to be back in service promptly, providing essential connectivity for the public.
During these upgrades, roadway embankments also received needed attention to ensure the long-term viability of the route. Details of the improvements were outlined in a PennDOT release, highlighting the significance of renovating infrastructure that underpins the daily routines of numerous Bucks County residents. The completion of such projects underscores PennDOT's commitment to maintaining and enhancing transport routes across the state.
For local commuters, this development promises not just a safer passage but also signals a dedication to modernizing aging structures, whereby safeguarding the transportation network in the region. Information regarding the specifics of the project can be found on PennDOT's website, providing insights into their process and future plans intended to keep Pennsylvania moving.
