The co-owner of a well-known San Antonio eatery, Pollos Asados "El Gordo," Jonathan Lumbreras, has been charged with conspiracy to possess with intent, to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine, according to court documents revealed by KSAT. This indictment comes after an FBI operation had Lumbreras arranging narcotics delivery to an agent who posed as a buyer. Lumbreras' alleged involvement spanned over several transactions, including ones orchestrated at a local McDonald's.

During these deals, Lumbreras deployed an accomplice for the actual handovers, with one encounter resulting in Texas Department of Transportation officials seizing over a kilogram of cocaine from an individual identified as Edward Smith, according to San Antonio Express News. Discussions for these transactions reportedly took place through the encrypted communication platform, Threema, where Lumbreras used the alias "George." The FBI has been monitoring Lumbreras', who has a prior conviction for charges related to cocaine distribution, activities since at least April 2024.

The restaurant, Pollos Asados "El Gordo," gained attention for its culinary offerings and was even featured on a local food segment, as reported by KSAT. Its reputation as a cornerstone in its community starkly contrasts the criminal charges faced by its owner. If found guilty of the drug charges, he could be looking at a prison term of up to 40 years and a fine of as much as $5 million.

Additional indictments encompass Roxanne Marie Herrera, who was identified later in the investigation. Besides drug charges, Herrera also faces counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to court records obtained by San Antonio Express News. An attorney for Lumbreras has maintained his client's innocence, despite the mounting evidence and previous brush with the law regarding similar infractions.
