A man has been arrested following a road rage incident that spiraled into violence and theft, according to local authorities. The San Antonio Police Department reports that on Friday, an encounter on the city’s Northside between two motorists resulted in one man being punched unconscious and robbed. Corey Williams, 25, is the suspect apprehended in connection with the crime.
The altercation occurred just before noon at the intersection of West Avenue and Serenade Drive, when Williams allegedly followed a 48-year-old man, purportedly after being cut off in traffic. Upon reaching the victim's workplace, the scenario further intensified. The victim, after taking pictures of Williams's car, found himself embroiled in an argument leading to a physical confrontation, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
William's growing ire culminated in an attempt to take the victim's phone, which set off a chase across the parking lot. He eventually overpowered and repeatedly assaulted the victim, leaving him unconscious. Williams then fled the scene with the stolen phone, though it was later located and reclaimed by law enforcement. "Williams was charged with robbery and booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center around 5 a.m. Saturday," as noted by KSAT News. He has since been released on bond, according to jail records.
Investigators credit the images of Williams’s vehicle, captured by the victim prior to the assault, with playing a pivotal role in identifying and locating the suspect. The SAPD's Robbery Task Force was able to arrest Williams at his home without further incident. Details concerning the case are still emerging, and the SAPD has yet to release a full report on the motivations behind this extreme display of road rage.
