The San Antonio trading card community has been struck with a somber note after a burglary at local store, TCG Exchange, resulting in a loss of $15,000 in merchandise. The store, specializing in various trading cards, was robbed in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to KSAT, two individuals broke into the store through a side window and filled their bags with selectively high-value items before the police could intervene.
TCG Exchange owner Joe Adam said, "They came in here and just started taking stuff and right now we estimated close to like $15,000 worth of merchandise," in an interview obtained by FOX San Antonio. The surveillance footage suggested that the culprits were knowledgeable about what they were looking for, likely having 'done their homework.' Adam speculated that the same individuals may have been involved in similar incidents at other stores.
In the face of the criminal act, the local community has rallied around TCG Exchange, offering support and outright assistance. Generous customers and fellow enthusiasts within the trading card community have come forward, not only with moral support but also donating cards and product to help the store recover its losses. Joe Adam, reflecting on this outpouring of solidarity, told FOX San Antonio, "I had people coming in, customers coming in, like, like, donating cards, donating product for us to resell, to kind of recoup, and I just been very grateful about that."
Despite the setback and the challenges of dealing with insurance matters, Adam remains hopeful. He lauded the spirit of the Pokémon community for their support, saying, "The Pokémon community is actually helping me be stronger," as captured in a statement by KSAT. The owner has expressed wishes for improved security in the area to prevent future incidents of a similar nature from occurring.
