It appears the dusty trails of Yellowstone have veered way South this fall, as San Antonio streets get set to host the cowboy boots and wide-brim hats of the 1923 film crew. That's right, the televised saga of the Dutton family tree jumps from the rugged ranges of Montana – where it planted its roots – to the Texan urban sprawl. Now, according to FOX San Antonio, the Alamo City is prepped to join the Western melodrama as "1923" begins its local production journey this fall.
The Paramount+ series, which originally sprawled across Malta, Africa, and Montana for its first season, is now roping in San Antonio for its second act. "1923" continues the rugged narrative of "Yellowstone," this time flinging viewers back a century to follow the origin story of the Dutton family, led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren's characters. As KSAT reports, the city officials have confirmed that San Antonio is ready grab a slice of the Western pie.
Breaking down the filming schedule, the production will tackle a five-phase plan starting September 9, transforming downtown streets into a scene straight out of the early 20th century. "The film division of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture is actively working with production personnel to facilitate the Paramount+ TV series 1923's filming in San Antonio this fall," Stacey Norton, from the Department of Arts & Culture, told KSAT. Prep work will lead up to the main event on September 19, with the production expected to pack up their saddles by September 27.
San Antonio's Broadway and Travis Streets are getting a vintage makeover for the occasion, with stretches between Pecan and Houston Streets, and from Alamo to Jefferson Streets, marked for filming. Businesses have been alerted to approaching street closures, ensuring the only stampede they'll be experiencing will likely be that of the film crew's busy boots. While no casting calls for extras in San Antonio have been announced yet, Legacy Casting has been roping in locals via Facebook for those interested in a brush with TV stardom.
