The Edgehill Fire tore through the Little Mountain community of San Bernardino on Monday, leading to the destruction of several homes and the unfortunate death of a family's three dogs, as residents experienced temperatures reaching up into the triple digits. The wildfire, which ignited in the 3300 block of Beverly Drive in the early afternoon, was propelled by sweltering conditions that hit a high of 109 degrees, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.

Authorities were quick to enforce evacuation orders for those residing on the south side of, and including, Ridge Line Drive and for residents on the north side and north of Edgehill Rd west to and including Beverly Drive; east to Circle Road, as flames posed an immediate threat to structures within their path. More than 200 firefighters responded to the inferno which had consumed at least five homes as reported by Sky5 reporter Gil Leyvas, with KTLA 5 News.

The containment of the fire was a gradual process, reaching 25% by Monday evening, then climbing to 75% containment by Tuesday morning according to NBC Los Angeles.

In the face of catastrophe, the community's spirit was witnessed by neighbors like Chris Herman, who in a statement obtained by KTLA, recounted their collective efforts to fend off the flames, "The whole community came and started getting buckets and pouring the water up there."

Further reporting from ABC7 shared the plight of the family, with Erika Hernandez reflecting upon the significance of the loss, "I can't believe it's gone, but... I don't care about the things. Truly, I'm just heartbroken about our dogs. They were our family members."
