A San Fernando man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Karla Terron, a 27-year-old mother whose burned remains were found off the side of a freeway in December 2022. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced that 30-year-old Juan Figueroa was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after a search warrant led to an arrest warrant, as reported by KTLA. Figueroa has been booked on suspicion of murder and is being held on $1 million bail. His first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
Authorities have indicated that the investigation into Karla Terron's death has involved extensive collaboration between multiple agencies over the past year and eight months. Seeing engulfed in flames on the side of State Route 99, near the Hosking Avenue off-ramp in Bakersfield, Terron's body was discovered before 5 a.m. on Dec. 17, 2022, as detailed by KTLA.
According to ABC7, detectives have been urgently piecing together the events leading up to Terron's murder. After visiting a San Fernando bar on the evening of Dec. 16, Terron reportedly went to a residence in the same city where authorities believe her murder took place. Her body was believed to have been transported in the trunk of a white 2021 Honda CR-V to Bakersfield. Detectives said Terron's cell phone was missing and encouraged anyone who found a cell phone around the time of her disappearance to contact them.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work toward additional arrests. As announced by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, they are seeking further information from the public that may aid in solving this case. "We hope people will have the courage to come forward and help investigators identify the information they are looking for," in a statement obtained by CBS News Los Angeles.
