
San José police have arrested a suspect in connection with the city's 21st homicide of 2024 following the discovery of charred human remains at a local homeless encampment. The suspect, 39-year-old Jesus Casas, a San José resident, was apprehended for allegedly murdering an individual whose remains were found on August 19. The incident unfolded near Roberts Avenue and Vintage Way, where a family member searching for a missing relative stumbled upon the grisly scene. Responding officers quickly identified the situation as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation, as per the San José Police Department.
The San José Police Department's Homicide Unit worked swiftly to identify Casas as the suspect. After gathering evidence, they secured a warrant for his arrest. Last Thursday, alert officers located and arrested Casas in San José. He was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on murder charges. Despite this progress, the investigation continues, with detectives still piecing together the motive and circumstances surrounding the crime.
The identity of the victim remains undisclosed pending confirmation by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office, which is also responsible for notifying the next of kin. The police are urging anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Barragan or Detective VanBrande to shed more light on the case.
