After the retail store's staff discerned the fraud, they and a witness reached out to the local authorities. The SRPD was on the scene in minutes, intercepting the suspects just as they tried to leave the parking lot by car. During the police intervention, one of the suspects attempted to conceal his identity, but further inquiry confirmed her actual name and connected her to three outstanding felony warrants stemming from burglaries and stolen credit card use.
A search of the vehicle led officers to find not only drug paraphernalia scattered throughout the passenger compartment but also a loaded handgun resting in the trunk, complete with an extended magazine. Further checks revealed that the gun was unrightfully in the possession of one of the detained occupants, a convicted felon who was legally barred from owning such a weapon.
The culminating evidence led to the arrest of all three suspects, who then faced several felony and misdemeanor charges. They were booked into the Marin County Jail, where one was also charged with the additional outstanding felony warrants tying her to previous criminal activities.
