The City of Sandy Springs is gearing up to actively involve the community in the future of the North Springs MARTA Corridor. Residents are being called upon to participate in a set of upcoming community input meetings slated for Thursday, August 22, as recently reported by the city's official website. This consultation process aims to gather public sentiments and insights on draft concepts for the Peachtree Dunwoody Road corridor and the North Springs MARTA Station area.
The chosen date for the community engagement comprises two separate events: a Community Workshop will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., offering a flexible window for residents to drop in at any time, while a Public Input meeting will take place later that evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs City Hall, located at 1 Galambos Way in Sandy Springs, GA. According to the city announcement, feedback from these sessions is critical in refining both current planning and future development for the area in question.
The daytime workshop is tailored for those who prefer to contribute during business hours. Participants will have the opportunity to review and comment on the draft concepts at hand informally. The evening session, on the other hand, is structured to present project overviews and critical findings regarding existing conditions. Post-presentation, attendees will break into small discussion groups to delve deeper into the concepts and contribute further to the vision of the corridor and the station site.
The North Springs MARTA Corridor Study is a pivotal effort dedicated to transforming the North Springs Station into a more pedestrian-friendly hub with improved multimodal safety and enhanced access for walking and biking. The study also explores the potential for placemaking at the station and envisions a blueprint for transit-oriented development on the property owned by North Springs MARTA Station. In the days following the community meetings, the city plans to universally make available an online survey to continue collecting input until September 6. Additionally, pop-up events are scheduled at the MARTA station on Thursday, August 29, and Saturday, August 31, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
With the support of the Atlanta Regional Commission through its Livable Center Initiative program, along with MARTA and the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts as key partners, the City of Sandy Springs is steering this study. The initiative reflects a concerted effort to engage Sandy Springs residents directly in the shaping of their surroundings and communal infrastructure. More details on the project and the meetings can be found via the official announcement on the City of Sandy Springs' website.
