A tragic turn of events unfolded in Santa Rosa this week, with a pedestrian succumbing to injuries after a hit-and-run incident. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Santa Rosa resident Mahlon Weaver, died yesterday. The Santa Rosa Police Department updated the public on the somber outcome. Further deepening the tragedy, on the same day, Rafael Vasquez, 49, was arrested, believed to have aided his daughter in evading law enforcement after the collision.
In the incident preceding these unfortunate revelations, Alejandra Vasquez, 19, was established by the Santa Rosa Police as the driver of the white Lexus sedan involved in the crash. The event occurred on Hearn Avenue near the SMART tracks around 9:42 pm, after which Vasquez reportedly fled. According to the police report, detailed by Hoodline, the use of Flock Safety camera technology was instrumental in identifying the vehicle and, consequently, the suspect.
Alexandra Vasquez is now charged with felony hit-and-run causing serious injury. Despite the severity of the charges, the Santa Rosa Police Department stated, "Investigators do not believe Vasquez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision." Immediate medical intervention was rendered to Mahlon Weaver at the scene, but sadly, his injuries proved to be fatal.
