During routine traffic enforcement in Santa Rosa yesterday, a Santa Rosa Police Motor Officer stopped David Chombo Garcia, a 24-year-old Healdsburg resident, for using a cellphone while driving near Randall Lane and westbound Highway 12. Garcia was on probation for a prior DUI conviction and driving with a suspended license.
The officer found that Garcia had failed to comply with a court mandate to install an ignition interlock device in his vehicle, which is required for individuals with DUI convictions to prevent them from driving under the influence. During a probation search of Garcia's 2019 BMW M5, the officer discovered a loaded Glock 17 with 10 rounds of ammunition concealed under a towel in a satchel on the passenger seat, as detailed by the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Garcia was arrested and faced multiple charges, including violation of probation, carrying a concealed firearm, operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device, and driving on a suspended license. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail under case 24-9196. For more information, the Santa Rosa Police Department directed inquiries to Sergeant Patricia Seffens at 707-543-3634 or [email protected]. This incident underscores the potential dangers behind seemingly minor traffic violations.
