Bringing out the umbrellas yet again, Pittsburgh residents will face scattered showers today, primarily along the I-80 corridor and the mountains. This was reported by the National Weather Service, which also predicts the weather will clear up in the evening, ushering in a spell of dry and cool conditions before it warms up again over the weekend.
Drivers commuting on I-80 should expect light showers during the morning, possibly extending into the afternoon in the higher elevations. The National Weather Service noted, that "Lake enhancement" and "upsloping" are the culprits behind these showers. Despite the scattered showers, temperatures throughout much of western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia will remain cool, with highs in the 60s, whereas eastern Ohio might see temperatures edge into the lower 70s thanks to, some afternoon sunshine.
Come nighttime, the region will see drier conditions with an end to the shower activity as cooler air sets in. According to the forecast, temperatures will dip into the 50s, reaching lows not seen since early June. Continuing into Tuesday, the temperatures will reach around 10 degrees below average, although skies will clear resulting in quiet weather.
As for air travel in the area, north winds are expected to blow at 10 to 20 knots throughout the day, with conditions ranging from VFR to IFR. High pressure settling in by Tuesday should bring more stable VFR conditions that will persist into the weekend.
For now, Pittsburghers, no watches or warnings have been issued, and it seems the steel city can look forward to some tranquility in the skies above, after today’s brief dance with the rain.
