New Braunfels residents and commuters should prepare for several disruptions as Union Pacific Railroad announced scheduled maintenance work that will lead to closures of multiple railroad crossings in the area. The closures, set to commence on Friday, August 9, and continue through Tuesday, August 13, are essential for the upkeep of rail infrastructure.
According to the City of New Braunfels website, the crossing at Krueger Canyon will be the first to temporarily shut down on August 9. These closures are poised to potentially disrupt local traffic, with authorities advising drivers to already start planning alternative routes. On August 10, the closure will shift to Rusch Lane, followed by Krueger Avenue and Live Oak Avenue on August 11.
The maintenance operation continues into the new week, with closings slated for Altgelt Lane, Grape Avenue, and North Walnut Avenue on August 12. FM 1102 will close on August 13. Each of these closures is planned to run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Municipal authorities emphasized the importance of the railroad to the region's transport network, and they strongly encourage commuters to take these temporary disruptions into account, and actively seek alternative routes during the designated times. The announcement underscores that these dates are estimates and might be subject to change, urging the public to stay informed on updates that might affect their day-to-day transit.
