Seattle police took into custody an armed robbery suspect in the downtown area on August 16, according to the Seattle Police Department (SPD). The arrest was made by bicycle patrol officers who responded to a 9:02 am call about a man with a firearm on Pine Street's 300 block. On the scene, the officers saw the suspect with a gun, who then unsuccessfully tried to make an escape attempt.
Despite officers giving lawful commands, the suspect resisted arrest leading to a struggle on the ground before being handcuffed. During the confrontation, multiple officers were needed to subdue him—his belongings were found to contain a gun with a visibly extended magazine later. Before the arrest took place, the man allegedly stole a beer from a group of individuals and brandished the firearm when they confronted him.
The recovered firearm had been reported stolen from Snohomish County. Along with the weapon, officers found cash rolled up and 2.4 grams of what is suspected to be fentanyl with the 34-year-old male suspect. Post-arrest, deputies at King County Jail initially refused to book him, and he was then sent to Swedish First Hill for medical evaluation. After being discharged, he was booked on multiple charges, including Robbery 1st Degree and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, with the bail set originally at $75,000 but later reduced to $10,000.
The Robbery Unit detectives have been assigned to further investigate the incident. With additional charges relating to the Possession of Synthetic Drugs/Narcotics potential as the investigation progresses, charges have been referred to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
