An early morning accident claimed the life of a semi-truck driver who lost control of his vehicle on I-75, with the truck plummeting into the Tampa Bypass Canal, as reported by FOX 13 News. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the emergency near mile marker 263 around 2:35 a.m., arriving to find the semi-truck's cab perched precariously over the canal and the vehicle subsequently becoming submerged.
In an operation involving multiple units and specialty teams, the fire rescue's efforts were detailed in a Facebook post mentioned by ClickOrlando.com, the front cab of the semi-truck became submerged around 15 minutes after the initial response, despite rescue efforts being swiftly executed, the rainfall slicked pavement setting a perilous stage where control, once lost, beckons calamity as unforgiving as the concrete barriers that lined the truck's last terrestrial moments. Divers from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office later recovered the driver's body from the submerged cab, found 40 feet below the water's surface.
The Florida Highway Patrol explained the sequence of events that led to the tragedy, stating that the driver, a 64-year-old individual from Mississippi, met his demise after his truck hit a concrete barrier and sailed over it; the truck's trailer remaining hanging from the bridge as the cab separated and descended into the water below. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue confirmed the driver's death just after 9 a.m. Monday, following the truck's retrieval and towing for inspection, AOL News reported.
