A traffic incident Thursday morning resulted in a Seminole County deputy's cruiser rolling over after being struck by a vehicle that reportedly ran a red light, as conveyed by the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision occurred near Semoran and Bear Lake Boulevards when a 2022 Toyota Corolla heading east on Semoran Boulevard entered the intersection against the traffic signal, colliding with the patrol car as the deputy was negotiating a left turn onto Bear Lake Road, as reported by the ClickOrlando.
The impact was such that it sent the deputy's vehicle overturning. Both individuals involved—a 33-year-old Apopka man driving the Toyota and the deputy—were taken to a hospital with injuries that were stated as non-life-threatening, according to information provided by ClickOrlando. The Seminole County Sheriff's Office later confirmed that their deputy, taken to the hospital for evaluation, "is doing well."
In a separate report by WESH, the crash took place just after 6 a.m. and involved the patrol car poised to make a left turn from the northbound lane. The Toyota driver did not heed the red light, which resulted in the deputy's cruiser being hit on the left side and overturning. Following the crash, a few lanes on State Road 436 were temporarily obstructed, though the roadblock has since been cleared.
The current status of the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
