Minnesota's care institutions for the aging just received a notable financial boost, with Senator Nick Frentz announcing a second infusion of funds aimed at keeping four nursing homes operational and at their best in Senate District 18. As reported by the Senate DFL MN, Frentz detailed allocations totaling $1,033,579 for August. This comes following a wider statewide effort that already saw $300 million channeled into nursing homes, based on legislation passed last year and signed by Governor Walz.
Assuming the economic burdens that these nursing facilities regularly face, the funds are directed toward financial stability, improving pay and staffing, and bolstering infrastructure. Senator Frentz said, "I am proud that we passed this funding in 2023 to keep our nursing facilities open and ensure they provide top-notch care." According to the Minnesota Senate DFL, the recipients for this funding round include Laurels Peak Rehabilitation Center and the Benedictine Living Community – St. Peter, among others, with contributions meant to boost residents' quality of life and service.
Each of the four nursing homes in question received significant aid from last year and also for this year, culminating in a substantial total sum aimed at long-term improvement. Senator Frantz’s district nursing homes, such as the Oaklawn Care & Rehab Center and Pathstone Living in Mankato, have been slated for amounts over half a million each in combined aid from 2023 and 2024, constituting significant financial injections for these facilities within the community.
