Early Saturday morning, Los Angeles' 10 Freeway became the site of a multi-vehicle incident, as a seven-car pileup halted traffic and resulted in hospitalizations. According to KTLA, at least five vehicles were involved and two individuals were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries following a collision near the Crenshaw Avenue exit. The crash was first reported just past 3:15 a.m. on the eastbound stretch of the freeway.
The initial cause of the pileup is believed to have been a motorist striking another vehicle that had stalled on the highway. This was followed by "at least three to four" more vehicles crashing into the original two, officials explained to KTLA. Not long after the accident, the California Highway Patrol told ABC7 that a blue Dodge Challenger and a gray Infiniti were the first to collide. Whether anyone was seriously injured in the seven-vehicle wreckage was initially unclear, but at least one person could be seen being transported from the scene by firefighter-paramedics in a news video.
The Citizen App posted footage from the aftermath, showing one vehicle overturned and several others significantly damaged. First responders could be seen working amidst the debris to tend to the victims and clear the scene. As emergency teams responded, parts of the 10 Freeway were necessitated to be shut down, causing considerable early morning traffic disruptions.
After the scene had been processed and vehicles towed, the eastbound lanes of the freeway reopened at about 5 a.m. according to the CHP report to KTLA, while ABC7 indicated the lanes were cleared by 6 a.m. As for the cause of the crash, both impairment and speed are being reviewed as potential factors, although definitive conclusions have not been reached, and the event remains under further investigation.
