Seattle has seen a flurry of activity recently following an incident involving a disturbance on a King County Metro (KCM) bus. The situation escalated when a suspect pepper-sprayed two police officers and a Metro coach supervisor, prompting a foot chase that ended in the suspect's arrest.
According to the Seattle Police Department's Blotter, the event occurred on August 17, 2024, in the bustling downtown area, near 3rd Avenue and Pine Street. Officers were called to respond to an "unruly suspect" that was causing trouble inside a parked KCM bus, around 1:34 p.m. The transit coach supervisor's request to remove the individual set the scene for what would follow.
As police approached, the suspect silently attacked, spraying the officers and a transit employee with pepper spray. The SPD report describes the "pain, irritation and discomfort" experienced by those affected. The suspect immediately fled, leading officers to pursue on foot.
The pursuit was brief, as police quickly apprehended the 48-year-old and took him into custody. He was charged with two counts of Assault in the 3rd Degree, Obstructing a Public Officer, and Resisting Arrest, and booked into King County Jail. His bail was set at $5,000. While the officers involved did not sustain lasting injuries, the Homicide & Assault Unit has taken over the case for further investigation.
