In the predawn hours of Saturday, a collision on I-94 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, involved a police car and resulted in injuries to both the officer and the driver responsible, who is suspected of drunk driving. According to Audacy's WWJ Newsradio, the incident was reported around 1:20 a.m.

The Michigan State Police (MSP) informed that the St. Clair Shores patrol car was parked on the right shoulder, attending to a call about a stolen vehicle in the vicinity when the accident occurred. A westbound Buick Envision veered off the roadway and struck the patrol car at the rear. Consequently, the police vehicle was propelled into the right and center lanes, and the Buick ended up on a grass embankment, as stated in a dispatch from MSP Second District on X.

Initial findings by MSP indicated that the driver of the Buick Envision was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Both the unnamed suspect and the police officer were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. The officer was subsequently released, while the driver remains hospitalized in an undisclosed condition. Future charges against the driver are anticipated upon their release from the hospital and are pending a review by prosecutors.

"There are too many options to get around then getting behind the wheel," said F/Lt Mike Shaw in an appeal for safer driving practices, as per a post by MSP Second District on X
