A high-speed chase ensued last Wednesday when a black Chevrolet Camaro, reported stolen from Menifee, was spotted and followed by the Riverside Sheriff’s Aviation Unit into Palm Desert. According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, the pursuit led to a parking structure on Highway 111, where the suspects abandoned the vehicle and made their way into a nearby business.
Authorities set up a perimeter but the suspects had slipped away before they could be apprehended. The investigation quickly pivoted to a Cathedral City residence, where law enforcement—using surveillance footage from the business—positively identified and located the alleged perpetrators, as stated in the official report.
The group of suspects, all in their late teens or early twenties, includes Cayden Lopez and Antwone Lewis of Palm Desert and Cathedral City respectively, along with Noeli Bautista and Samantha Ray from Palm Springs and Cathedral City. It was during the arrest at the Sky Blue Water Trail home that a loaded, unregistered handgun was found on Lewis.
The charges leveled against the suspects range from possession of stolen property for both Lewis and Lopez, to conspiracy for Bautista and Ray. Following their arrest, the quartet was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center. The Sheriff's Office has extended an invitation to the public, urging anyone with further information on this incident to contact the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station at 760–836–1600, underscoring the importance of community involvement in such cases.
