Bay Street Emeryville, known for its eclectic shopping and dining scene, is poised to embrace a taste of Japan with the upcoming addition of Tokyo Central to its lineup in 2025. Introduced by CenterCal Properties, the West's commercial real estate dynamo, this move points to a strategic shift to mirror the Bay Area's diverse tapestry, where Asian Americans play a significant role. A statement obtained by CenterCal's recent announcement highlighted Tokyo Central's breadth of Japanese goods, ready-to-eat meals, and an upscale dining segment.

Serving customer needs since 1965, Marukai Corporation, under Tokyo Central's banner, has been dedicated to bringing an array of authentic goods to the U.S. market. With its entry into East Bay and second undertaking in Northern California, Tokyo Central’s commitment to customer service shines through its philosophy that "The Customer Matters Most." With roots in Japan, Tokyo Central has grown exponentially after becoming part of Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation, according to its website

The inclusion of Tokyo Central is the latest in a series of exciting developments spurred by CenterCal Properties since taking ownership in Summer 2021. Bay Street Emeryville has witnessed a diverse mix of establishments, including ten new restaurants, making the mall a bustling center for entertainment and gastronomy. Kazuhiro Matsumoto, president of PPRM USA, told CenterCal, “Tokyo Central is the ultimate one-stop destination for Japanese specialty food and lifestyle items”. He expressed excitement about introducing Japan's quality and value to the eclectic Bay Street Emeryville locale.

The reinvented Bay Street is on course to serve as both a shopping destination and a community hub. Scott Bohrer, VP of Development for Bay Street Emeryville, described the updated center as a place that offers everything from "a round of miniature golf at Tipsy Putt, throw back a few margaritas with your friends at Flores, or just enjoy your Philz Coffee". Expected to become a central fixture in 2025, Tokyo Central will occupy a 40,635-square-foot space bolstered by rooftop parking and adjacent to the new South Bay Street Plaza and Art Garden. All this information is framed by the collective effort to provide a well-rounded experience for residents and visitors, said Scott Bohrer while speaking to CenterCal.
