An unforeseen incident at Crosby Elementary School led to the evacuation of all students and staff following a transformer fire that broke out today. As reported by FOX26 Houston, the emergency was reported at approximately 7:50 am when a transformer caught fire on a pole in the school's parking lot, prompting immediate action from the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department. Officials ensured that everyone on campus was safe, although they needed to shut off the school's electricity and air conditioning.
Setting in motion a response in accordance with their safety protocols, the Crosby Independent School District directed a safe and orderly transfer of the students to Crosby Middle School's gymnasium. Without the usual car rider pickup available, walking was the necessary alternative, accompanied by district and campus staff. In the statement obtained by FOX26 Houston, the district expressed pride in how the students did an excellent job following instructions and acknowledged the efforts of the staff in managing the situation.
Parents and guardians were subsequently informed of the necessity to collect their children from the middle school gym and were reminded to bring identification. As noted on Crosby ISD's official Facebook page, Crosby ISD intimated that more details on bus transportation would soon follow. Meanwhile, Crosby ISD maintained that the School was once again safe and that power was restored.
The school district also thanked community members profusely for their patience and understanding in the Facebook post. Deputies were present to assist. All students and staff safely evacuated Crosby Elementary; the day unfolded without further unexpected incidents.
