The Union City community has been in the grips of commercial burglaries spanning several weeks on Kohoutek Way, but the city's police department has clamped down, leading to multiple arrests. According to the Union City Police Department, the burglaries occurred in the 29300 and 29500 blocks. They involved a calculated means of forced entry using a vehicle to break through roll-up doors, after which the suspects would make off with goods.

Investigations started with patrol officers analyzing surveillance footage revealing the suspects' methods and use of a particular red Chevrolet Colorado. This truck was hot, reported stolen out of Hayward, and was equipped with license plates registered to an entirely different vehicle. With this lead, the Union City Police were able to identify a suspect already known to them and associated with the vehicle in question.

The Special Services Unit, along with other teams, monitored the suspects, observing a suspicious act of package discarding that was linked to another theft incident in the city. This careful observation paid off, as two suspects were spotted "casing" residential areas.

Armed with warrants, the police arrested multiple suspects and searched two locations, which turned out to be treasure troves of pilfered goods. One further arrest occurred at the third suspect's home, where the search was based on a warrant. Police recovered additional stolen items.
