In Grove City, an ongoing search intensifies for Quinntel Bagley, a man charged with kidnapping who escaped police custody and has since been accused of kidnapping the same victim again. Grove City Police Officers Brian Strawser and Carrie Rose have been disciplined with a five-day suspension following an incident where they failed to properly escort Bagley on June 13, resulting in his escape outside Fairfield Medical Center, as reported by ABC6OnYourSide.
The incident, captured on body camera footage, showed Bagley fleeing immediately after leaving the hospital. Officers Strawser and Rose, neither of whom has a history of similar disciplinary events, were unable to keep up, which led to the escape and subsequent events, including Bagley allegedly stealing a car and breaking into a home, according to 10TV. Additionally, a Grove City Police spokesperson confirmed that the suspension constitutes a loss of the officers' leave and is not considered "free time off", as per NBC4i.
The fugitive, Bagley, is described as a convicted sex offender and 38 years old. Local authorities, paired with the U.S. Marshals, are currently pursuing him across the Columbus area. The urgency of this manhunt is due to Bagley's second alleged kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend on August 2, from which she escaped unharmed. This repeated victim, the same woman involved in the June incident, indeed escaped and notified the authorities, making the matter even more pressing. According to Lt. Jason Stern of the Grove City Police, "Neither officer has a history of similar disciplinary events or failed subject control incidents. This violation was significant, which prompted the recommended discipline to start at a suspension level," a statement obtained by ABC6OnYourSide.
Bagley was being treated at Fairfield Medical Center for self-inflicted injuries at the time of his escape, and it is believed that he managed to intimidate a homeowner into giving him her vehicle keys before fleeing in a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The manhunt has the community on high alert, with the U.S. Marshals offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to his capture. Bagley is considered armed and dangerous, and locals are cautioned to refrain from approaching him but rather to notify authorities at (614) 469-5540, a detail released by Hoodline Columbus.
