A large-scale sideshow took over the intersection of Georgia Street and Columbus Parkway last Saturday. Close to 100 vehicles were reportedly blocking traffic and spinning out from 11:40 P.M. until the early hours of 2:05 A.M., according to the Vallejo Police Department.
Responding to calls that flagged the disruptive event, several law enforcement agencies, including the Solano County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol (CHP), collaborated to scatter the crowd of cars and spectators. The efforts led to 14 arrests and four towed vehicles, placing those cars on a 30-day hold. The police used the CHP's Air Operations Unit to track those participating in the dangerous activity and their 'spectating cheerleaders' as the situation unfolded across different intersections.
The statement heavily underscored the consequences of attending these events, quoting an arrest under ordinance 8.74.040, which prohibits spectating at street races and reckless driving exhibitions. It also highlighted hefty fines and 30-day vehicle impoundments, with fees totaling approximately $2,589, including tow release, storage, and after-hours tow fees.
