A 13-year-old student from Lynn Lucas Middle School in Willis ISD is now facing a third-degree felony charge for making terroristic threats against multiple schools in the district. According to CW39, the unspecified threats were reportedly made on Snapchat on September 10, targeting Lucas Middle School, Brabham Middle School and Willis High School.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the child's arrest, emphasizing the seriousness with which they treat any threats of violence. “We want to emphasize that any threats of violence are taken with the utmost seriousness,” the MCSO said in their report. "Such actions are not jokes and will result in full legal consequences to ensure accountability and maintain the safety of our schools." The student did not have access to firearms and the parent has been cooperative with the investigation, according to CW39.
Nationwide, a rise in school threat incidents has prompted increased security measures. Just last week, Conroe ISD, another district in the region, strengthened police presence at several of its campuses due to similar concerns. In an email communication with parents, Conroe ISD school officials downplayed the severity of the threats, saying they did not consider them credible, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
While the motives behind the recent threats from the Willis ISD student remain unclear, law enforcement officials have their investigation underway. "The student admitted to law enforcement as being the one who made the threats via SnapChat, though the motive behind the threats is still unknown," officials stated in a release, as noted by Houston Chronicle.
