A tragic shooting incident cast a pall over the city of Duquesne on Tuesday afternoon, as a 13-year-old girl sustained critical injuries inside a residence on South Seventh Street, as reported by local authorities. According to WPXI, details about the emergency response included police and medics who arrived at the scene following a 911 call made just after 3:30 p.m.
Despite the initial confusion surrounding the girl's age—the mayor of Duquesne, R. Scott Adams, had erroneously referred to the child as twelve—a release by Allegheny County police confirmed that the victim was indeed a 13-year-old, the discrepancy promptly highlighted in a report by WTAE. The young girl, who was visiting her father and not a student at the local school, was found at the house with a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and is now in intensive care, fighting for her life.
According to an interview, local resident Arthur Rhone, merely a few doors down from the site of the trauma, recalled the moment he heard the shot, comparing it to the sound of "a board hitting the ground." He recounted the harrowing details, per WPXI, including witnessing the young girl being carried out to an ambulance and expressing his hope, diffused through prayer, for her survival.
In the meantime, county police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
