Voters in Allegheny County, get ready to exercise your civic duty. Mailboxes will soon be filled with mail-in ballots as the County Elections Division has started sending them out to those who've requested them. If you haven't yet applied for a mail-in ballot and wish to avoid the Election Day lines, consider acting fast—the deadline is October 29.
For those who prefer the feel of paper and the immediate satisfaction of voting, "over-the-counter" voting kicks off this Monday. Situated in the lobby of the County Office Building at 542 Forbes Ave, this method will be available on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. until the mail-in ballot deadline. And while you're at it, be mindful that 175,000 mail-in ballot applications have already been processed by the Elections Division, as reported by Allegheny County's official press release.
Expanding voting options, the County will bring additional satellite elections offices into play on October 15, 16, and 17 at Soldiers and Sailors in Oakland, and for those hunting down a place to register to vote or to nab a mail-in ballot, you're in luck. These offices will pop up in North Park, South Park, and CCAC Homewood over the weekends of October 19-20 and 26-27. Remember, all this information regarding locations, dates, and times is a click away on the Elections Division website.
Voters with mail-in ballots can drop them off at the County Office Building for safe delivery. If that's inconvenient, check the Elections Division website for other ballot drop-off locations. The Division has filled about 97% of poll worker positions but still needs help in areas like Plum Borough, Pleasant Hill Borough, and Pittsburgh's Carrick/Knoxville area. To volunteer, call the Elections Division at 412-350-4500 and select option 5.
