An Allentown man has been detained on serious charges involving the sexual assault of two underage girls, with one of the victim's mother allegedly engaging in her child's sale for money and narcotics. Joshua Mickey Martel, 31, now faces multiple counts of child rape and other related offenses, authorities reported. The Lehigh County District Attorney's Office confirmed that Martel has been formally charged with the sexual assault and rape of two girls, ages 12 and 13.
The appalling details emerged when a 12-year-old girl reported to a guardian on July 31 that her mother had "sold" her for cash and drugs, 6abc reported. This incident is alleged to have occurred between April 23 and 24 at a hotel situated on Airport Road in Allentown. The young girl recounted witnessing her mother receive cash and drugs from Martel before she was left alone with him in the hotel room, where she was then sexually and physically assaulted.
A second case surfaced involving another 13-year-old girl found in Martel's hotel room in May after a school officer noticed her absence from school, NBC Philadelphia detailed. According to those reports the teenager was picked up from school by an Uber service, and failed to return the following day, which led to the discovery of her in the same hotel in an apparent repeat of the previous incident.
The considerable sum of $500,000 has been set for Martel's bail for both cases. Additionally, the mother of the 12-year-old victim faces her own array of charges including rape of a child, and trafficking, as per information from the Lehigh County Jail, where she is held under a $350,000 bail, WFMZ has learned. A preliminary hearing for Martel is scheduled for September 10, where details of these disturbing crimes are expected to be further examined.
