Mark your calendars, Anoka County residents, because a key event is coming up to tackle the ongoing opioid crisis. The Anoka County Opioid Solutions Initiative (ACOSI) is organizing a 'Spotlight on Opioids and Overdose' event on November 2 at the Columbia Academy. Designed to provide education, support, and resources, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is open to the public free of charge.

Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions, attend informative sessions, and connect with over 30 community vendors. There will also be presentations by experts on the topic of opioid addiction, free naloxone distribution and training on how to use it, and a panel featuring individuals who have personal experiences with opioid addiction. Alongside the learning opportunities, the event will offer a casual side with free coffee and pizza for attendees.

The 'Spotlight on Opioids and Overdose' is part of ACOSI's response to the opioid misuse that has impacted Anoka County. Founded to improve public health outcomes, save lives, and reduce the impact of opioids and other substances, ACOSI focuses on managing opioid settlement funding and reinforcing strategic partnerships within the community.

Vendors and speakers for the event will be set up in the school's gymnasium and the media center, respectively. Such events not only aim to inform the public but also to create a network of support for those affected by substance abuse. Anoka County's official website published details about the event on September 24th, stating that the initiative was a concerted effort to address this critical issue in the local area.
