In the suburb of Antelope, a residential fire resulted in the death of an elderly man and injured a woman. According to Metro Fire, the incident happened on September 17, shortly after midnight. Upon arrival, firefighters battled intense flames and were informed that two individuals were trapped inside the burning structure.
Despite the aggressive measures to control the blaze and search for the occupants, one adult male was found deceased. The Sacramento County Coroner's Office later identified the man as 80-year-old Lawrence Monroe, as reported by ABC 10. An adult female, whose identity remains undisclosed, was rescued and hurried to the hospital for further medical treatment.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and details about the origins and how it may have spread are still murky. Metro Fire's initial updates did not reveal if there was a working smoke detector in the home at the time of the incident, but the department emphasized the importance of ensuring smoke detectors are functional and that batteries are replaced regularly.
Metro Fire is urging residents to revisit their own fire safety measures, including checking smoke detectors, to protect against potential future tragedies. The injured woman's condition is yet to be updated.
