The Texas State is hitting a high note, as Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Music Office (TMO) strike a chord with the opening of applications for the Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR) Program's second year. In tune with efforts to bolster live music, local economies, and job growth across Texas, the initiative is handing out a full or partial tax rebate to qualifying music venues and festival promoters. This melody of financial relief aims to crescendo the state's live music industry, which is said to play a significant role in Texas' economy and quality of life.
In a refrain similar to last year's inaugural announcement, the TMIR Program is ready to dish out up to $100,000 to eligible venues or promoters. And, according to the Governor's office, it's all in the name of spurring job creation and industry expansion. "Texas is where live music lives," Governor Abbott said, as per the Office of the Texas Governor. A sentiment that resonates with the fact that the Texas music industry reportedly supports more than 192,000 jobs, a figure that the program backers hope will only grow with this continued financial backing.
Applications became available on September 4, with a deadline of November 30 for Fiscal Year 2024 contenders to throw their hats in the ring. TMO Director Chip Adams conveyed the state's commitment, "Spaces for live music throughout our state are a crucial component of our local and state economies, as well as an equally important aspect for our quality of life," Adams explained, as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor.
The rebates apply to a mix of beverage gross receipts and sales taxes on beer and wine, with the stipulation that an entity can only claim one per tax ID annually. Aspiring applicants, who are tuning their business strategies in anticipation, are advised to hit the right notes on eligibility and instructions. For those looking to rock their fiscal concerns away, further information can be found on the Texas government's official music page.
