A notable advocate for the arts and community enrichment, Elizabeth "Liz" Levitt Hirsch was honored posthumously in Arlington this week, her contributions forming a continuous echo in the city's heart. On Tuesday, Mayor Jim Ross announced at the City Council meeting that September 17th, 2024, has been officially deemed as Liz Levitt Hirsch Day, a gesture that pays homage to her relentless spirit which nurtured the seeds of artistic endeavor into robust lattices of inclusive community spaces, according to the City of Arlington's news release.
Amidst the celebration, the Downtown Arlington Management Corporation together with Texas Trust Credit Union has placed Levitt Hirsch at the zenith of this year's Dream Builder Award, a salute to the architects of Arlington's urban renaissance. Levitt Hirsch's philanthropic legacy radiates from the free concerts at Levitt Pavilion Arlington, which under the patronage of the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, has become a cultural linchpin, hosting over 50 annual performances that are accessible to all, acknowledging her dedication to fostering social cohesion through the arts and fortifying the local economy.
Reflecting on the legacy of Levitt Hirsch, Maggie Campbell, President and CEO of the Downtown Arlington Management Corporation, remarked, as per the City of Arlington, "You cannot tell the story of Downtown Arlington’s revitalization without talking about the impact that the Levitt Pavilion has had on our downtown, creating a beloved citywide destination where all feel welcome, while sparking economic growth and new businesses in every direction", harnessing a collective story woven through the fabric of Arlington's rejuvenated downtown scene which finds in Levitt Hirsch's memory, a ceaseless catalyst for creative and economic vigor, an honor uniquely celebrated during the DAMC's annual meeting and luncheon, presided over by Jim Minge, CEO of Texas Trust Credit Union.
