The Arlington Police Department recently announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting last month. The suspect, identified as Sundall Barnes and known by the moniker “Maxxo”, has been charged with murder following the death of 20-year-old Zoin Hodges, who was shot near a Brown Boulevard car wash in Arlington.
Barnes was taken into custody after a routine traffic stop last Saturday, where detectives had been investigating a theft case from August 13 involving the suspect, when he was recognized and officers discovered the active warrants, and subsequently, they located a stolen firearm within the vehicle. This discovery led to a breakthrough in the murder investigation. According to the City of Arlington, after Barnes requested an attorney and refused to speak with investigators, detectives used the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network to test the recovered weapon. Test-fired shell casings matched those found at the murder scene, allowing the police to obtain a warrant charging him with Hodges' murder.
The motive for the shooting that took place on August 30, remains elusive, though investigators believe it was not a random act. The victim, Hodges, who was walking from an apartment complex toward a motel where he was staying, suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. At the time of the original release provided by the Arlington Police Department, the young man's identity and the circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known.
