
Residents and local business owners in the vicinity of Moury Avenue and Jonesboro Road in Atlanta can now feel at ease, as the Department of Watershed Management has effectively resolved a water main break. The disruption commenced late Friday morning, resulting in a temporary suspension of water services and diminished water pressure in the area. Additionally, four local schools were impacted and experienced a loss of water supply.
11Alive reported that a private contractor inadvertently breached a water line, causing the disruption. The Atlanta Watershed responded promptly, with crews documented repairing the damage at 10:52 a.m. The Department of Watershed Management worked diligently on-site, as required by the circumstances, in a city known for its rapid response to such incidents.
Educational institutions including Hank Aaron New Beginnings Academy, Humphries Elementary School, Price Middle School, and Slater Elementary School found themselves improvising to mitigate the disruption. "Our Facilities department will deliver bottled water for drinking, a portable trailer to provide water for restrooms, and hand sanitizer for hand washing to those schools. Our school day will continue as scheduled, as we do not expect any disruptions to instruction," an Atlanta Public Schools statement outlined, as reported by 11 Alive.
Yesterday, by 6:30 a.m., the Department of Watershed Management had repaired the break, resolving the immediate crisis. Residents and businesses were informed about the possibility of air in the lines or water discoloration after the repair. The department provided instructions for flushing systems to restore water clarity, ensuring public safety and comfort while sharing essential steps to return daily life to normal, as per FOX 5 Atlanta.
