Baltimore residents can expect a dry and sunny start to the week with cooler temperatures on the horizon, according to the latest forecast by the National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC. A cold front that has been moving through the area early this morning will continue to push south, bringing with it a shift in wind direction to the north. As dewpoints fall into the 40s and 50s later today, locals can enjoy a noticeable drop in humidity.
For today, the forecast follows the front's passage with max temperatures expected to hit the upper 70s to lower 80s, providing a mild relief from recent sweltering days. It is set to turn breezy with gusts around 15 to 25 mph for much of the day, however, by sunset, things will calm as the winds begin waning. Clear skies will contribute to noticeably cooler temperatures tonight, with lows ranging from the 40s in some valleys to the upper 50s in urban centers like downtown Washington and Baltimore.
High pressure will cement its position north of the region Tuesday through Wednesday night, ensuring more dry conditions. This period promises to offer temperatures slightly below climatological norms, with comfortable highs in the 70s for the majority of areas and nighttime lows resting comfortably in the 40s and 50s. With the high-pressure system moving offshore by Wednesday night, the midweek will remain dry.
For mariners, the National Weather Service has issued Small Craft Advisories as northerly winds around 20 to 25 knots are anticipated following the cold front. These advisories will remain in effect into Tuesday morning for parts of the Chesapeake Bay and neighboring waters. Winds are expected to take an eastward turn heading into Wednesday, with additional advisories possible. As the low-pressure system moves in later on Friday, experienced mariners should be prepared for more challenging conditions with the possibility of thunderstorms.
