Baltimore residents should brace for varied weather conditions over the next several days, as a stagnant frontal system and ensuing low pressure from the Great Lakes bring a mix of fog, rain, and potential thunderstorms. The National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC has detailed the week's weather patterns, noting a persistent onshore flow expected to result in minor coastal flooding along the western Chesapeake Bay and tidal Potomac River, including the Washington DC area.
For Sunday, the region woke to dense fog and diminishing overnight showers. The fog is set to lift by late morning, with low clouds eventually exiting. However, with the frontal boundary stalled, temperatures might struggle to break the mid-70s in some locales, contrasting with adjacent valleys that could see highs around 80 F. Tonight, the temps will cool down into the upper 50s to mid-60s, paired with a chance of showers, drizzle, or more fog, mainly west of US-15 near the lingering front.
Heading into the workweek, Monday and Tuesday won't offer much reprieve from the clouds, with rain chances picking up across the region late Monday into Tuesday evening as another weather system departs from the Ohio Valley. This ushering in of wet weather includes likely showers and potential thunderstorms, as the National Weather Service mentioned. The unsettled pattern continues through midweek with scattered showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by cooler temperatures clinging to the mid to upper 70s and lows in the 50s to low 60s.
On the transportation front, adverse weather conditions might hit travel plans. Metro airports, including CHO and MRB, witnessed morning fog restrictions, with more anticipated over the next few days, causing possible on-and-off flight delays. Baltimore's waterways are not untouched, with onshore flows through Tuesday night and marine fog that could hamper visibility. As for tides and coastal flooding, Minor coastal flooding is likely at high tide at all sensitive locations for the next few days. A Coastal Flood Advisory is currently in effect for multiple areas, and Annapolis is on watch for moderate flooding through tonight.
