Residents of the Axel Brewers Hill apartment complex were forced to evacuate on Friday morning after a significant leak in the rooftop pool raised concerns about the building's structural integrity. According to WBALTV, the Baltimore City Fire Department arrived at the scene at 1211 S. Eaton St. before 8 a.m. to conduct an investigation, which led to the condemnation of over 60 units and the declaration of a structural emergency for the premises.

According to the Baltimore Banner, footage captured by a drone showcased a buckled pool deck at the shallow end, with tiles scattered and some even lifted from their places. Meanwhile, the adjacent deeper section of the pool was filled with murky, green-tinted water, signaling neglect or a rapid decline in maintenance following the infrastructure failure.

John L. Marsh, spokesperson for the Baltimore City Fire Department, conveyed that specialized units closely monitor the situation and that residents were swiftly evacuated following door-to-door notifications for those closest to the pool. In contrast, others received text messages urging them to steer clear of the building's lobby, which lies beneath the pool, and to remove their vehicles from the garage.

According to Marsh in a report by WBALTV, shelters, and displacement services are not needed so far. Shelters and displacement services are being offered through the Red Cross for those affected by the evacuations while city officials, contractors, and a structural engineer assess the building plans to understand the full extent of the potential damages and to determine when residents might be able to return to their homes.
