A Baltimore man is currently facing serious charges after attempting to board and possibly steal a private plane at Martin State Airport. According to The Baltimore Sun, the suspect, identified as Joseph Goldman, aged 43, was apprehended on Friday following the incident at the airport situated in Middle River.

State police reported that Goldman bypassedly drove past airport security and made his way onto the airport grounds. His alleged aim was to gain access to an empty aircraft, which was in possession of Sinclair Broadcast Group executive chairman and Baltimore Sun co-owner David Smith. A pilot who was preparing for another flight encountered Goldman and swiftly alerted security. In the aftermath, Goldman was duly arrested and now awaits a bond hearing scheduled for Tuesday.

Currently, Goldman faces charges of felony theft over $100,000, felony grand theft auto, trespassing on private property, and trespassing on posted property. These charges come with the gravity of past allegations, as WBALTV reports, in 2017, Goldman was sentenced to a year and a day in prison, with an additional three years of supervised release for firearms charges – these included possession of an arsenal of illegal guns such as a sawed-off shotgun and a rifle without a serial number.

Officials from Martin State Airport could not be reached to provide a statement or comment on the incident, leaving a gap in the broader understanding of how such a breach may have occurred. Goldman is currently being held without bond, and has, as of now, not released any statement regarding the allegations against him. His trial date has been set for Oct. 16, which will likely bring additional details of the case to public light.
