Baltimore's Mayor Brandon M. Scott, alongside the Department of Public Works and the Mayor's Office of Community Affairs, has announced the annual Fall Clean-up and Day of Service slated for October 26, 2024. The event, aimed at bringing together residents and community groups, focuses on beautifying the city's neighborhoods. According to the City of Baltimore Mayor's Office, Mayor Scott encouraged the city's dwellers to "join us once again to make a difference in our neighborhoods and keep Baltimore beautiful and vibrant together."
Acting DPW Director Khalil Zaied highlighted the significance of the event in fostering a strong partnership with community volunteers, stating that "The Mayor's Fall Clean-up emphasizes the importance of fostering a strong partnership with community members and volunteers." He pointed to the annual event as a prime example of the collective achievements possible when residents choose to actively unite for a common cause. Registration for the clean-up can be done by contacting 311 or by visiting the city website until October 22, according to the official press release.
For those registered, clean-up supplies will be distributed on September 17 at 2840 Sisson Street and 111 Kane Street, during specific times listed in the press release. DPW reminds participants that while general waste will be collected, the event will not include the collection of bulk trash items or the provision of roll-off dumpsters.
Additionally, student volunteers participating in the clean-up can potentially earn service-learning hours required for graduation, while residents can receive stormwater credits for their involvement. "Students in grades 3-12 must participate in a clean-up or greening activity hosted by the Department of Public Works (DPW), a school, organization, or group to receive service-learning hours from DPW," as stated in the press release. Moreover, stormwater fee credits can be earned, which may reduce water bills by up to $30 annually for eligible participants who register their clean-up activities.
For more details on the event, volunteering, or service learning hours, the Mayor’s office has directed residents and students to the Department of Public Works website or to reach out via the provided contact numbers.
