Barrow County officials are rolling out the welcome mat for community input on how to make local streets safer. The Public Works Department announced an upcoming open house event that’ll let citizens speak up about transportation safety issues they face every day. Attendees will get a glimpse into the recent safety analysis focusing on the road segments and intersections that have been the stage for fatal and serious-injury crashes.
The open house, according to the county’s website, will take place at the Barrow County Historic Courthouse on September 26, with a midday session from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and an evening session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. During the event, officials will lay out proposed countermeasures designed to reduce these incidents in the future.
"As we look to improve the safety of our local roads, we know that the most important voice in the matter belongs to the citizens who drive these roads on a daily basis," Public Works Director Chris Yancey declared in the statement made by the county’s website. Intended to harness these voices, the format of the session is a drop-in style, which allows participants the flexibility to pop in as their schedules allow and suggests no pressure to stay for the entire session.
In the courthouse's second-floor Commission Meeting Room, there will be an open house designed for conversation and information-sharing. It’s a chance for residents to engage in dialogue with officials in an open and free setting. Barrow County residents interested in improving street safety are encouraged to join. Both sessions will cover the same content, giving everyone a chance to participate.
