In a positive effort to build community relations, members of the Boston Police Department's Bureau of Community Engagement teamed up with the 'Sassy Strollers,' a local senior group, for a boat ride and lunch at Castle Island. According to the BPD's news blog, the seniors enjoyed a break from their walking routines as they sailed on the BPD 'Guardian' ship, taking in views of the city skyline and learning about local history. The outing concluded with a delicious lunch at Sullivan's on Castle Island.
Gratitude was expressed to the BPD Harbor Unit for organizing what the blog post described as "a perfect day." The post emphasized the importance of such engagements and conveyed eagerness for future events, highlighting the BPD's continued commitment to community outreach. The 'Sassy Strollers,' known for their community involvement and activity despite their age, appeared to enjoy the change of pace and setting.
It’s moments like these that serve a dual purpose: not only do they offer a respite and a new perspective to those partaking in these communal activities, but they also gesture toward a larger narrative of community policing efforts, where law enforcement agencies are looking beyond the badge and into the hearts of the neighborhoods they serve in undefined ways. There is already anticipation bubbling for the next adventure, as mentioned in the BPD's blog post.
