In a standard operation that underscores the ongoing battle against drug distribution in Boston neighborhoods, officers of District B-3's Drug Control Unit made an arrest in Mattapan last night, netting a suspect who was already on their radar for drug charges. According to the official police statement, the arrest occurred around 7 p.m. when officers conducting surveillance identified a man known to have a suspended driver's license operating a vehicle in the area of River Street.
The surveillance effort allowed officers to closely monitor and subsequently approach the vehicle once it had stopped near the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Woodrow Avenue. It's here that the suspect, Leroy Samuels, age 57, from Dorchester, was to quickly find himself in handcuffs. Officers, maintaining the strategy of a proactive presence in high-risk areas, executed their arrest with precision.
An inventory search of Samuel's vehicle turned up more than just the proof of his suspended license. Officers uncovered a digital scale laced with white powder residue. Moreover, they discovered a glass container containing crack cocaine, alongside more of the substance packaged in a plastic bag, as well as various other drug packaging materials. These findings indicated more than mere possession; they pointed clearly to the intent to distribute.
Samuels now faces charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B, and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. The confiscation of these materials and Samuels' subsequent arrest are sure to temporarily disrupt the flow of narcotics within the community but shed light on the resilience of drug activities that law enforcement are determined to ceaselessly pursue.
