The Boston Police Department has issued a community alert following a surge in violent thefts targeting gold chain owners in Roxbury. According to a statement released by the BPD, there have been several reports of gold chain armed robberies in the area since late August 2024.
Investigators from District B-2 are canvassing the community, urging anyone who might have information regarding the incidents to come forward. Multiple male suspects are involved in these cases, described as HMs who have committed the thefts while traveling on a moped. Walking alongside the road during the robberies, victims typically ranged between the ages of 20-30, with at least one individual in their 60s being targeted.
In the most brazen of these attacks, a suspect was seen pointing a black firearm at one of the victims. While this particular instance involved the display of a weapon, subsequent reports have not indicated further use of firearms or other weapons. The detectives' efforts are focused on piecing together the activity patterns of the suspects, who have consistently been observed to swiftly flee the scene after snatching the gold chains.
The BPD is committed to apprehending those responsible for these crimes and has ensured that the identities of anyone providing information can be closely protected. For individuals preferring to aid the investigation anonymously, they can either call the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or send a text with the word 'TIP' to CRIME (27463). In one of the reported incidents, the suspects quickly escaped, highlighting the swift nature of these thefts. Anyone with details about the robberies or the suspects is asked to contact District B-2 Detectives at (617) 343-4275.
