Following a detailed investigation by detectives from District B-2 (Roxbury), additional charges are being brought against Edwin Santos, a 22-year-old implicated in a series of robberies. According to the Boston Police Department's official release, Santos is now facing more counts of Unarmed Robbery stemming from incidents dating back to 2023. This move by authorities comes after further scrutiny into two separate cases of muggings.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, September 10, Santos was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia, with assistance from the Boston Police in locating him. At the time of his arrest, Santos had outstanding warrants for Two Counts of Armed Robbery to wit Firearm, and Assault and Battery to wit firearm, out of Roxbury District Court. He is scheduled for an arraignment pertaining to these charges at the same court.
The arrest of Santos marks a critical juncture in a string of thefts that specifically targeted seniors, all victims aged sixty and above. These robberies did not discriminate across district lines; Districts B-2 (Roxbury), B-3 (Mattapan), and E-18 (Hyde Park) all bore witness to Santos's alleged preying upon our elders, seeking gold chains as his spoils.
As the community reels from the impact of these crimes, the police work underscores a stark truth – that the vulnerable among us often bear the unseen scars of crime. The additional charges levied against Santos suggest a pattern, one that carries a weight, heavier than the gold that was taken. In their continued pursuit of justice, the police force remains resolute in their message that such acts will not be tolerated in Boston's neighborhoods.
