
Police in Brockton are on the hunt for a man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl as she was making her way home from school. The incident occurred yesterday, and according to authorities, the teenager was approached by the man while walking in the driveway of a residence located at 279 West Elm Street, as reported by 7NEWS. The girl managed to break free from the assailant after a brief struggle, and she immediately ran to her home.
The Brockton Police Department shared that the suspect is a Black man in his 20s, who is missing two front teeth. He was last seen wearing a black shirt adorned with multicolored lettering and grey pants, riding on a blue bicycle featuring white lettering. Although the police have communicated a description of the perpetrator, no arrests had been made at the time of reporting, according to a NBC Boston article.
Priya Tahiliani, the interim Superintendent of Brockton Public Schools, described the situation as "deeply concerning" and has assured the community that the district is working closely with law enforcement. "We are working closely with the Brockton Police Department to support the student and family affected by this deeply concerning incident and will work with the police to help in identifying a suspect," Tahiliani stated in a release noted by NBC Boston. Tahiliani also mentioned that the school community has been alerted and students are encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to a trusted adult.
In the wake of the assault, school police officers were notified of the incident. An active search was initiated in the area, as stated by Boston 25 News. As investigators canvass the neighborhood, the Brockton Police Department and school officials continue to seek the public's help in catching the assailant.
