For the residents of Burien, the city's spirited embrace of diversity and unity takes a physical form this week, as the community marks National Welcoming Week. The City Council is set to officially declare September 13-22 as Welcoming Week, celebrating the tapestry of cultures that populate the small city with a big heart, as per the City of Burien. This announcement, following the City Council meeting on September 9, aims to bring together neighbors from various backgrounds, including immigrants, recognizing the benefits of creating an inclusive society for enhanced collective prosperity.
As part of the week-long celebrations, the city will fully express its inclusivity through the "We're All In" themed Welcoming Burien event. The public is invited to Town Square Park on Saturday, September 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as shared by Burien's official announcement. Activities planned for the day are as diverse as the community itself, spanning cultural performances, games, and a resource fair.
Burien's Welcoming Week also presents an opportunity for personal connections. Residents will have the chance to meet face-to-face with the City's Community Connectors, who span language communities from Spanish to Vietnamese and Amharic. This is part of an ongoing push, as City Manager Adolfo Bailon articulated, "We encourage everyone to come join us and celebrate what makes Burien so special: its people, its vibrancy, its diversity, and its inclusivity."
