A tragic event unfolded over the weekend in Cumberland County, where a young woman lost her life in a vehicular accident. As reported by Local 21 News, the incident occurred on Saturday at around 12:30 p.m. on Newville Road. The driver, succumbing to slumber, veered off the road and collided with a utility pole.
After the vehicle struck the pole, ejected the passenger into the roadway, having been spun counterclockwise. According to PennLive, the passenger, Nadia Startzman, a 20-year-old from Chambersburg, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 19-year-old from Newville, sustained no injuries in the crash.
ABC 27 confirms that the Pennsylvania State Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident. The aftermath of the collision also affected another westbound vehicle, which was minorly damaged by debris resulting from the crash, and was able to be driven off the scene.
In a statement given to police and subsequently reported by Local 21 News, the driver was taken to Holy Spirit Medical Center by Friendship Hose Co. EMS services. The driver, whose identity has not been released, has left a community in mourning and a stark reminder of the dangers that come, with driving while not in full command of your faculties.
